Most folks tend to camp along the bench on the north side of Caribou Lake. This trail is fantastic. Proceed for 11.5 miles to Coffee Creek. An incredible loop leading to a massive lake basin with incredible views. The elevation at the trailhead is 5,041. The highlight is perhaps the view from Caribou Mountain, where the entire basin unfolds below and the stupendous, sawtooth spires of the heart of the Trinity Alps line the horizon. It’s a small ledge. There are minimal views, but plenty of shade until the final 0.1 of a mile when the trees fall away and incredible views of the Caribou Basin and the granite heart of the Trinity Alps, particularly Sawtooth and Caesar Peaks become available.
